Prime Minister’s son Ali Musa Gilani flies to South Africa
Wednesday, April 11th, 2012 10:25:43 by Faisal FarooqPrime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani’s son has left Pakistan before his name could be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) for his alleged involvement in a chemical allotment case worth of Rs7 billion.
Ali Musa Gilani, who was recently elected to the National Assembly, has departed for South Africa and is expected to travel to the United Kingdom too. His personal secretary, who spoke to local media, confirmed his departure to South Africa.
He, however, clarified that it was a scheduled tour and Ali Musa is likely to return on May 2, 2012.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court issued a notice to Ali Musa in the high-profile Ephedrine quota case while the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had requested the interior ministry to put his name on the ECL.
Shortly after the apex court issued his summons, Ali Musa Gilani jet off to South Africa with his wife and children.
According to the reports, the premier’s son has been repeatedly summoned by the ANF in the case earlier for investigation into the Ephedrine quota allotment, but he didn’t show up.
Reports said that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had not put up his name on the ECL, saying Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Khushnood Lashari, who allegedly tried to influence probe into the case, might also fly abroad.
The apex court issued notices to Ali Musa Gilani along with some top bureaucrats to appear before the court in the Ephedrine chemical import case.
ANF field a plea with the court that rules were flouted in the allocation of Ephedrine chemical quota by companies that are said to be the favorites of the premier’s son.
The court during the hearing was informed that the federal government had recently issued transfer orders of ANF Regional Director Brigadier Fahim Ahmed Khan and Investigating Officer (IO) Deputy Director Abid Zulfiqar.
The two above-mentioned officers were carrying out investigation in the chemical import case. Upon which, the apex court nullified the transfer orders, asking the two officials to continue with the investigation of the case.
The court categorically announced that no order shall be passed by the authorities on the matter without the court’s approval and until its decision on the matter.
