Lewis Hamilton suggests McLaren need to tweak low-speed downforce
Thursday, April 12th, 2012 11:23:47 by Kashif KhanLewis Hamilton has said that McLaren need to look into the low-speed downforce of the car.
Hamilton suggested that the pit stops need to be slicker in order to remain ahead of the pack. McLaren have had a good start to the season and considered to be the leaders of the pack so far. Hamilton though dropped from pole position to third in both of the races so far in the season.
The Brit has said that he is planning to return to the factory ahead of the next Grand Prix in China to work on the car with the team and find solutions to the its weaknesses.
Hamilton said that some of the things are not going his like in Australia the safety car put him in a disadvantage and in Malaysia the first pit stop did not go as he planned and lost at least two places because of a shuffle with the Ferraris.
He said that he also had problems with the rear jack when he was in the pit stops the next time and then in the next one the right front was a problem.
Overall, it has been these little things that have hindered his performance but time will change that and things will go along smoothly soon.
“In qualifying we are very quick but we need to be quicker in the race,” he was quoted by the Guardian. “Our low speed down force needs to improve. If we make some improvements to the car and maybe our pit stops then we can do a little better. We will have some upgrades I hope. I will go back and push the guys to see if we can get some upgrades to try and eke ahead of the guys particularly in the race.”
It will be interesting to see how Hamilton progresses in the season, as he attempts to improve his performances, so far his teammate Jenson Button has had a better season and that will add the pressure on Hamilton to come up with a better performances.
