Spectacular win over RCB unforgettable for Faf du Plessis
Friday, April 13th, 2012 9:15:55 by Rana Nasir GhafoorChennai Super Kings opening batsman Faf du Plessis has said that his team’s performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore was spectacular in a crucial Indian Premier League game on Thursday.
Batting first, the Royal Challengers set a mammoth target of 206. Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli smashed fantastic half-centuries to put their side in command.
In reply, the Super Kings were never in a position to go for a comfortable run chase. They required 43 runs in last two overs, when no settled batsman was at the crease.
However, Albie Morkel changed the course of play by hitting Kohli for 28 runs in the second last over of the game. Dwayne Bravo finished off the proceedings in style, scoring the required 15 runs in the final over to guide CSK to an excellent triumph.
Faf du Plessihe scored 71 off 46 balls to lay a solid foundation for the pinch hitters. He scooped ‘Player of the Match’ award for his wonderful batting. Talking in the post-match ceremony, he said that he has never been a part of game like that.
"To be part of a match like that … I don’t think I have ever been like that. I am super excited. To get those 45 runs or something in the last two overs … I said it’s going to take some supernatural."
"I think the special thing with our batting line up is that we bat so deep. Suresh comes in and he strikes the ball for fours and sixes and then Dhoni walks in and hits six. That takes a bit of pressure off me," he said.
On his team’s strategy for the run chase, he explained, “It’s a big score and so we thought we have to play really well to get there. To get a good start. We analysed the wicket and it’s a good wicket.”
“There wasn’t much spin which was the key for us. If it started to spin in the second innings it really would have been tough. But it didn’t spin much. The ball was coming on nicely. Just wickets in the hand towards the end was the key."
