Tony Hawk keeps his fans busy with his Twitter Scavenger Hunt

The latest edition of Tony Hawk Twitter Scavenger Hunt returned on Sunday, April 15, to offer the millions of twitter followers of the American professional skateboarder, actor and entrepreneur an opportunity to get their hands on a wide range of goodies.

The prize packages are hidden by the 42-year-old Hawk across the nation, who then posts hints for his followers on the social networking and micro-blogging website Twitter to help them locate those gifts.

The hunt has gained immense popularity ever since its inauguration a couple of years back as it not only creates an opportunity for the fans of the legendary skateboarder to get their hands on free goodies, but also serves as an interactive platform between the 900 innovator and his fans.

Talking about the birth of the Twitter Scavenger Hunt, the California-based skater revealed that he just came up with the idea while driving to a skate-park one day. Bringing his car to a halt, he stepped out and hid his skateboard in the bushes nearby. Tweeting the location of the skateboard, he returned to the location after less than ten minutes to find his skateboard gone.

Getting encouraged by the enthusiasm of his Twitter followers, he decided to expand it from a nation-wide event to a global-scale scavenger hunt.

The goodies hidden by Hawk and the team that he has put together to make this hunt a success include autographed completes, video games, bicycles, golf gear, smart phones, gift certificates, audio equipment, and much more.

“I make requests via Twitter for product/sponsors in the weeks leading up to it, and have found that many companies are keen to the idea and don’t expect much in return; they realize the potential of being involved in such a grass-roots project and know that seeing their product in the mix has great resonance,” conceded Hawk.

According to sources, prize packages were shipped out from the Hawk’s southern Californian warehouse to various states of America, as well as Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland and Netherlands.

The initiative taken by the legendary action sports athlete is indeed ingenious, one that is bound to act as an inspiration for others in the years to come.
