Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan has rejected the proposals of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) regarding the restoration of NATO supplies from the country.
Pakistan became a front-line state in the so-called war on terror after September, 2001. The relations between Pakistan and the US were very good for most part of the previous decade. However, since last couple of years, the relations have deteriorated because
of the sequence of events that have led to bitterness between Pakistan and the NATO forces.
The incident of Salala Check-Post turned out to be disastrous for the Pak-US relations as Pakistan decided to halt the NATO supplies from the country.
However, Government of Pakistan has now decided to reopen the rout for NATO against the public sentiment. There is a school of thought in Pakistan which questions of the legitimacy of the NATO supplies as the containers also include the ones with arms and
ammunition. As the US has announced that it will evacuate Afghanistan by 2014, it raises a question that if the NATO forces are sincere in their commitment of leaving South Asia then why do they need more arms?
Imran believes that both the major political leaders of Pakistan, Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari have a consensus on this decision.
“Jackals are sitting in Islamabad and Raiwind, referring to President Asif Ali Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif,” said Imran.
The cricketer turned politician is of the opinion that Pakistan has not gained anything in the war on terror and the country must get out of it as soon as possible.
The Chairman PTI expressed, “How will this resolution benefit the people of Pakistan as over 40,000 Pakistanis have died in the US-led ‘war on terror’ while the country incurred a loss of $50 billion during the last four years.”
Imran added that his party has completely rejected the proposals of PCNS and said while expressing his anger, “The PTI will not accept restoration of NATO supply routes. It is not simply a matter of money. It is a matter of extricating Pakistan from this
war which is not Pakistan’s war at all and which has aggravated terrorism in Pakistan.”
