Saturday, April 14th, 2012 4:05:56 by Taimoor TariqMembers from six world powers are holding talks with Iran in Istanbul, Turkey in order to breakdown deadlock over Iran’s nuclear programme.
US, UK, France, China, Russia and Germany are among the involved representatives.
“I don’t think this round of talks will see any substantial progress,” said Bora Bayraktar, euronews’ Turkish correspondent.
Many people feel that Iran will find it hard to have any more time as western countries will surely look to put more political and economical pressure on Tehran.
West suspects Iran of looking to develop nuclear weapons capability while Tehran has always insisted that their programme is peaceful and will have no far reaching consequences on world peace.
Being the only Middle East state with nuclear capability, Israel sees Iran’s efforts towards nuclear capability as a threat to its very existence and could be planning pre-emptive strikes in a bid to safeguard its own interests.
Iran already claims that it has been able to successfully produce and test fuel rods for use in its nuclear sites. These rods contain enriched uranium pellets that provide fuel for nuclear plants.
Last Saturday, US president, Barack Obama signed more sanctions on Iran. In late February this year, United Nations nuclear inspectors expressed their concerns over the military dimensions of Iran’s atomic programme. Experts say that Tehran has considerably
stepped up in producing Uranium.
According to an IAEA report, Iran has significantly increased the number of uranium enrichment machines and if uranium is refined, the material will be used to develop nuclear weapons.
Tehran has always maintained that its nuclear programme is purely for peaceful ends, and has insisted it has no intention of giving it up.
