Rahul Dravid disappointed with Rajasthan Royals’ performance against KKR
Saturday, April 14th, 2012 1:11:10 by Rana Nasir GhafoorRajasthan Royals skipper Rahul Dravid has lamented over his team’s lacklustre performance against Kolkata Knight Riders in an important game of the Indian Premier League on Friday.
In the 15th game of the lucrative league, the Knight Riders thrashed Dravid and company by five wickets. Batting first, the Royals failed to put up a huge total on the board.
Despite a fine opening start of 45 runs, the visitors failed to consolidate the innings and as a result, could only score 131 runs in the allotted quota of 20 overs.
In reply, the home side comfortably overhauled the target with four balls to spare. Dravid described that his pacers’ lack of experience and poor fielding were the prime reasons behind such a humiliating defeat at Eden Gardens.
"Our pacers are young and inexperienced compared to those of KKR. I think we could have fielded better. Though we lost the match, we were never outclassed. We always knew it was going to be low scoring game as the wicket was slow and turning. Though we made
a steady start, losing wickets at crucial junctures cost us heavily," Dravid said after the match.
The former Indian skipper was adamant that his side showed fight in every game. With the Twenty20 World Cup coming up, Dravid believes the ongoing league is a good chance for the young players to do well and earn a place in the national squad.
"IPL is semi-international and semi-domestic tournament. The selectors will definitely be watching [this tournament]. There are [some Indian] players who are performing [well] against international bowlers as well," he shared.
While he expressed disappointment over his team’s dismal bowling and fielding effort, he admired Ajinkya Rahane, who is Rajasthan’s most consistent batsman so far in the tournament.
On Rahane’s performance against KKR, he explained, "He started off very well in international cricket. He was left out when some of the senior players came in. It is a great opportunity [for him] to show the selectors that he can play in all forms of the
game. He is doing that. He is working really hard. If he keeps performing like this, he has a bright future."
