Brianna Throssell and Nick Robertson outsmarted their opponents on fifth day of the 212 Australian Age Group Swimming Championships in Brisbane on Friday, April 13.
The 16-year-old Throssell won the title of Girls 16 Year Olds 100m butterfly as she tapped the wall with an effort of 59.72 seconds. She was the only swimmer to post a sub one minute effort in the double lap butterfly discipline as her strongest competitor,
Ellen O’Rourke stayed nearly one second behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 00.84 seconds.
Third spot of the event was obtained by Chris Licciardi, who was almost one body length behind his former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 00.84 seconds. Licciardi was chased by Emma Niere, who completed her race in a time of
1 minute and 02.34 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was secured by Canes Puhlmann, who stayed nearly half a second behind and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 02.86 seconds. Samantha Abbott of University of NSW remained just 0.05 seconds slower from her former finisher
and ended her swim in a time of 1 minute and 02.91 seconds for sixth position.
On the other hand, Robertson dominated the equivalent event in Boys corner as he completed his race in a time of 54.89 seconds. Robertson was followed by Regan Leong, who posted 55.10 seconds for silver medal. Leong was chased by Ben Schafer, who occupied
third position by clocking a time of 55.27 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Stuart Rech, who stayed 0.24 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 55.51 seconds. He was chased by Mitchell Pratt, who completed his swim in a time of 55.81 seconds for fifth position.
Furthermore, the position holders received a huge round of applause from the audience for their remarkable sprints in their exclusive events. In addition, the podium finishers were awarded accolades for their notable efforts at the medal ceremony of the
championship.
