The Hunger Games tops the Box Office for the third straight weekend. Apart from competition faced from the American Reunion and Titanic 3D, Suzanne Collins’ novel adaptation added another 33.1 million, summing up a total of $302.5 million at the US Box Office.
The comedy sequel, American Reunion, raked in $21.5 million and landed at number two at the Box Office. Titanic on the other hand sunk $17.5 million and placed at number three.Last week challengers, Wrath of the Titans dropped to number four while Julia
Roberts’ Mirror Mirror fell at number five. Disney’s John Carter has not given up yest as it still lies at the top 10.
The $78 million budgeted movie, The Hunger Games, became the first movie in 2012 to rule for three weeks in a row. Last movie to achieve this record was The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 in November last year. It also surpassed the highest-grossing
film in the Twilight Saga, “Eclipse” which grossed just over $300 million.
The movie also became the highest grossing film of 2012, surpassing its closest competition from Dr. Seus: The Lorax by roughly $104 million. It also became the third movie to pocket the highest amount at its opening weekend.
The Hunger Games stands behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part two and The Dark Knight Rises. However, in all time record, the record breaking flick is standing at number 37 behind Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
The movie also received certified Fresh ratings at the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes and the site general consensus states, “Thrilling and superbly acted, The Hunger Games captures the dramatic violence, raw emotion, and ambitious scope of its source
novel.”
This epic adaptation is a must watch for everyone and Jennifer Lawrence has displayed her best performance in it.
