Russian Special Services Group arrest teenage boy in crime of extortion
Monday, April 16th, 2012 6:03:41 by Usman KhalidA unit of Russian Special Services Group cracked down at the house of a teenage boy in the suburbs of St. Petersberg in Russia on last Tuesday. The crackdown operation was undertaken on inbestigative report filed by the Number 146 Forbes billionaire Suleiman Kerimov worth $7.8 billion.
Kerimov reported that someone has threatened him via an email that he is a hired assassin and Kerimov is his target but he will forge the killing if he paid him 10 million dollars. The very sound of the threat seems fabricated. Kerimov acted on his instincts and pulled some strings in his social circle that probably includes some government officials in the law enforcement agencies.
The crackdown operation from the special forces, remotely overseen by Moscow headquarters, which does not happen too often, which suggests that Kerimov has links deep in the law enforcement agencies.
From the very beginning no one believed it was a real killer. Investigators traced the email’s IP address soon after Petrov filed his complaint to St. Petersburg police. Although it took Kerimov’s personal arrangements to get the special task force operation kick-started.
Kerimov, who serves as a Federation Council senator, owns stakes in Gazprom, Sberbank and in the world’s largest potash producer, Uralkali. He also has Anzhi Makhachkala football team.
Earlier last month he tried the same scheme on Vladislav Petrov, head of St. Petersburg City Hall’s energy department, though asking for a smaller amount – 1 million dollars only. The teen confessed right away and got charged with extortion, which carries a maximum prison sentence of four years. He is now back at home under house arrest. He still believes that he could have gotten away with the crime had he asked for small amount, in the tune of $2 Million.
