Renovation starts at the Qaddafi Stadium Lahore

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started renovation in the Qaddafi Stadium Lahore for the upcoming series against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed last week that its team is going to visit Pakistan for a One Day International and a T20 international later this month. This means that international cricket is going to return to Pakistan after more than three years.

Naturally, it is going to be a massive challenge for PCB to host the series in an efficient manner as no international cricket has been played in the national stadiums in recent past.

However, PCB is extremely confident of holding the series according to the international standards. A spokesperson of PCB said yesterday that still there is a lot of time before the series and things will be in place by the first match, which is scheduled
to be played on the 29th of April, 2012.

“We have ample time to prepare the arena for the matches and we will finish the renovation work in eight to ten days,” said a PCB spokesman on Monday.

People of Pakistan are crazy about cricket and it is extremely sad that they have been deprived of this entertainment in recent years. Their love for the sport remains immense as it was quite evident during the recently concluded Faysal Bank Super 8 T20
Tournament 2012 in Rawalpindi.

On the other hand, PCB’s Director of International Cricket, Intikhab Alam expressed that the facilities of cricket in Pakistan are of highest quality and claimed that Qaddafi Stadium will be in a wonderful state before the series starts.

Former Pakistan captain said, “We have top class facilities to stage international cricket so there is no difficulty for us to host them at short notice.  High level security arrangements will be in place as committed with Bangladesh Cricket Board delegation.
PCB would be preparing plan to welcome our Bangladesh cricket guest and give them, memorable stay in Lahore.”

One can expect huge crowds in Qaddafi Stadium during the fixtures between Pakistan and Bangladesh and it is going to be a test of PCB’s abilities to hold major cricketing events.
