The Hunger Games became the first flick since Avatar to top the Box Office for four weeks in a row. Suzanne Collins’ novel adaptation raked in an impressive $21.5 million to top the Box Office charts for another week. The Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson,
Liam Hemsworth and Elizabeth Banks starred movie grossed a total of $336,666,363 at the US Box Office and earned $194 million at the International market.
The $78 million budgeted movie pocketed a total of $530 million. It was displayed at 4,137 theatres and collected a total of $152 million on its opening weekend in United States. However in span of four weeks time, it collected a total of $336 million from
4, 137 theatres.
It is set in a near future where a Capitol selects a boy and a girl from its twelve districts to fight to the death on live television. Katniss (played by Lawrence) volunteers to take her younger sister’s spot in order to play the latest game.
After earning this success, The Hunger Games landed at 22nd all-time in ticket sales behind Disney’s Finding Nemo.
"There’s nothing old about finishing No. 1," said Richie Fay, Lions Gate president of distribution. "We’re just happy to be able to look over our shoulders and see how well we’ve done."
The movie received certified Fresh Ratings at the site, Rotten Tomatoes. It also received an amazing score of 7.6 at IMDB from its 96, 657 users.
The Farrely brothers’ latest comedy, The Three Stooges, debuted at second place with bagging $17.1 million. The $30 million budgeted comedy stars Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and Chris Diamantopoulos.
Lionsgate’s The Cabin in the Woods opened at number three at the Box Office. Josh Whedon’s horror/comedy grossed a $14.9 million, a respectable result.
