PPP believe in people’s court, says President Asif Zardari

President Asif Ali Zardari said on Monday that Pakistan People’s Party believes in people’s court and the people of Pakistan are the ultimate judge.

“We have decided not to be provoked and will not get provoked in the future. We have not taken any action against anyone and will continue this policy,” said Zardari while addressing the 22nd annual All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) Awards distributing ceremony here at the President house on Monday.

The President further added that the People’s Party and the incumbent government believes in free media and appreciates the critical role of media in promoting democracy.

“The PPP and the present government recognize and respect the critical role of the media in promoting democracy, because an independent media is a guarantor of human rights, freedoms and liberties,” said Zardari.

The president urged the APNS to look into the issue of deferred salaries of workers and journalists besides the implementation of the 7th Wage Board Award and constituting of the 8th Wage Board.

He also assured government’s full support and assistance to the All Pakistan Newspapers Society, adding that the record of PPP government to maintain media freedom and tolerance for dissent spoke for itself.

Commenting on the government’s policy of reconciliation and tolerance, President Zardari said: “We have endured even a campaign of slander, but we have as a matter of policy let the people judge. Let the people judge whether we have been justly criticised or subjected to a campaign of slander.”
