Two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Chad Le Clos met expectations of his fans by earning gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on first day of the 2012 South African Long Course Nationals in Durban.
Le Clos showed no mercy to his opponents in the eight-lap IM event as he accomplished gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 4 minutes and 13.86 seconds.
His dominating effort remained nearly two seconds ahead of Riaan H Schoeman, who achieved silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 4 minutes and 15.60 seconds.
The 22-year-old Schoeman was chased by Michael J Meyer, who stayed considerably slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 16.42 seconds.
In the meantime, Mandy T Loots snared top position in the Women’s 100m butterfly semi-final. The 33-year-old Loots seized top position of the discipline by clocking a time of 59.44 seconds.
Her invincible effort was trailed by Vanessa Mohr, who qualified into the final as second position holder by posting a time of 1 minute and 00.80 seconds. Mohr was chased by Marne Erasmus, who obtained third best qualification spot by producing a time of
1 minute and 01.12 seconds.
Following that, Kathryn Meaklim seized gold medal of the Women’s 400m IM. The 22-year-old Meaklim outperformed her competitors in the distant IM event as she occupied gold medal of the event with the timing of 4 minutes and 37.70 seconds.
She was followed by Jessica Pengelly, who stayed nearly nine second behind him and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 46.47 seconds for silver medal. Similarly, the third position of the discipline was secured by Wendy Trott, who remained transpired on the
finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 47.11 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all listed events while the podium finishers received medals and accolades for their notable efforts after the session. Furthermore, the championship will conclude on April 22 after the conclusion of all planned
events.
