How, why and when should the corporate sector embrace tablet culture? – Part 3
Wednesday, April 18th, 2012 3:30:38 by Usman KhalidIntel is also launching their new System on a Chip (SoC) processors, that are expected to augment the launch of Windows 8. The Fall 2012 tablets are expected to be cheaper than the already-in-the-market slates.
Speaking of which…
Low Cost
A good laptop, suitable for a network terminal or client, costs between $700 to a $1000 apiece (on retail price). Its replacement in tablets costs from $300 to $500 apiece. However, a volume purchase will bring the price even down from the retail front and this is the most attractive part to the employers, who after 2008 economic crash down are trying to save every penny.
Moreover, the work at the terminals is mostly not so intensive per se. Therefore, the low cost purchase will rightly justify the productivity.
For those companies and departments, where intensive graphics and programming are their bread and butter, laptops haven’t vanished from the market.
Limited Use
Most companies prefer to limit the computing at the terminals and laptops and desktops, due to their complex operating systems and configurations, are difficult to manage.
Tablets, on the other hand, have simple operating systems that are easier to handle and put restrictions on.
Most of the companies do not recommend social networking and other applications like web and stand-alone chatting. Therefore, the network administrators have to go through a series of restrictions and obligations to make it sure that the terminals are not allowed such computing. For this reason, these administrators love tablets because of simple operating system architecture and security layers.
