Gautam Gambhir believes KKR are hard to beat in IPL
Thursday, April 19th, 2012 1:09:25 by Rana Nasir GhafoorKolkata Knight Riders Gautam Gambhir has said that his team is hard to beat, if his teammates play to their potential in the ongoing
Indian Premier League.
His comments came in the wake of KKR’s emphatic win over Kings XI Punjab. In an important game on Wednesday, Gambhir and company
crushed Punjab outfit by eight wickets.
Batting first, the Adam Gilchrist-led Punjab side failed to put up a solid total on the board. Shaun March and Gilchrist showed
some determination with the bat, but it could only take them to 120-odd runs.
In reply, Gambhir guided his team to a comfortable win by playing an aggressive knock of 66 runs. Although the Knigh Riders have
many giants in the line-up, they had a mixed outing so far in the championship.
Talking about his side’s slightly inconsistent run so far, Gambhir shared that Kolkata will be an invincible unit, if the guys deliver
their one hundred percent.
"I have always believed that if we play to our potential, we are a strong side to beat," Gambhir, who led the 125-run chase with
an unbeaten half century, said at the post-match presentation.
"The way we restricted them was an excellent effort on such a flat wicket," said the left-hander, who also won the Man-of-the-Match
award for his fifty.
On the other hand, Gilchrist was disappointed over his team’s dismal performance. Gilchrist had to return to the pavilion because
of an injury when he was batting superbly. He described that his hamstring injury took the sting out of the home team’s innings.
"My injury took the direction out of our innings. Hard to say what was a good score on this wicket," he said.
Expressing his concerns over the pitch, he explained, "You are always concerned when you get pitch invasions in any sport. Terrible
things happen when someone runs like that towards the players and you just can never be sure at that stage what’s going to happen."
The Punjab Kings need to win majority of their remaining matches in order to stay alive in the tournament.
