The most threatened forests around the world – Part 1
Thursday, April 19th, 2012 6:10:13 by Fouad Ashraf2011 is the International Year of Forests and paradoxically forests had never been as threatened as they are in its aftermath.
Forests in a worse state of preservation of the planet and have lost nearly all habitats, but are still home to many unique plants and animals in the world. If these forests are lost, these endemic species are extinguished forever. These are the most threatened
forests on Earth.
A forest is basically an area with a high density of trees. These plant communities cover large areas of the globe and function as animal habitats, hydrologic flow modulators and conservative land, constituting one of the most important aspects of the biosphere
of the Earth.
The interest of the companies ‘nomadic’ multinational mineral resources, construction of dams which flood large areas of jungle or the growth of cities and roads (roads, canals, etc..) are clear reasons for regression or fragmentation of the forest.
Firstly we take a look at Burma, its rivers and wetlands are extremely important for the preservation of birds, turtles and freshwater fish, including some of the largest freshwater fish in the world.
Aquatic ecosystems are under intense pressure in many areas of this site. The freshwater marshes and natural flood and wetlands are destroyed by drainage for growing rice. The rivers are facing the electricity generation, an activity that produces the flooding
of sandbars and other habitats that would normally be exposed during the dry season.
This situation seriously affects ground-nesting birds and some turtles. The conversion of mangroves into ponds for shrimp aquaculture, overfishing and using destructive fishing techniques also pose significant problems for coastal and freshwater. At present,
only 5% is retained its original habitat.
To be continued…..
