The best inexpensive tablets in the market
Thursday, April 19th, 2012 4:27:13 by Usman KhalidAmazon introduced the first tablet to the world in 2007 with a slate-like structure. However, in the beginning its sole purpose was to facilitate in reading books and journals. Apple followed the suit in quick succession and rolled out their first colourful tablet in 2010 called the iPad. Now-a-days, tablets are not only the best option for reading but for movies and music as well, especially on the go.
Samsung recently announced their low-cost trickled-down tablet Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. The slate has a price tag of $250 MSRP in the US. However, its final price in the Asian markets is yet to be determined.
Due to its low price and colourful screen, the tablet is touted to be a successful gadget in the market. However, there is one problem. There is this tablet from the pioneers, Amazon that has been giving a hard time to the likes of almost everybody since its launch last year. Amazon released the cheapest Android tablet of 2011, the Kindle Fire in October, and since then the device has been running hot streak in the circles that like cheap alternatives to reading print books and expensive media players.
Kindle Fire is worth a mere $199 and it boasts a colourful LCD screen with WiFi connectivity. Along with the internet connectivity, the Kindle Fire brings a slew of services and packages on Amazon’s own ecosystem.
The cloud services are the ones that have made the Kindle Fire a successful device in the market. The likes of Tab 2 7.0 and Barnes and Noble’s Nook Tablet all lack the integrated services that Amazon offers on its flagship tablet.
Nook Tablet was released at the same time as Kindle Fire and incorporates the same dimensions as its closest peer but it lacks the same services that Amazon offers to its Kindle Fire in the shape of Prime membership.
This is one of the biggest problems that likes of Nook and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 have to cater to, in order to compete with a strong competitor in the shape of Kindle Fire.
