Producer Venkatappa: I want to make a better film than ‘The Dirty Picture’

Producer Venkatappa is gaining a lot o media limelight these days because he is making a south remake of ‘The Dirty Picture’, which will feature the controversial queen of Pakistan Veena Malik in the lead role.

The film, which is to be directed by Trishul (of Baba fame), has been titled as ‘Dirty Picture: Silk Sakkath Maga’. However, many out there are curious whether if Venkatappa has acquired the remake rights from Ekta Kapoor or not.

When asked Venkatappa about it, he simply answered by saying that he doesn’t need to procure any rights from Ekta, who co-produced ‘The Dirty Picture’ with Shobha Kapoor.

The producer insisted that Ekta faced much criticism from Silk Smitha’s family when she made the film because she didn’t even ask them before making a film on their family member so why would he ask her if he is making a film on Silk now.

He further confirmed that he is not remaking ‘The Dirty Picture’ rather he is making a film of his own, which he also believes would be a much better one.

“There’s no question of acquiring any rights. When The Dirty Picture was made, the makers claimed that the film was not about Silk Smitha, but we all know it is. Ekta did not get the rights to make a film on Silk from the late actor’s family. So why should I pay her to make a film on Silk, when we can have a better take on the subject. Silk has done films in Kannada with Shankar Nag and Vishnuvardhan, among others. I want to make a better film than The Dirty Picture,” said Venkatappa.

Well, all said and done, ‘The Dirty Picture’, which was released last year, struck gold at the Indian Box Office and Vidya Balan, who played a lead role in the film, was awarded with a National Award for her magnificent performance.

Nevertheless, let’s see if Veena Malik, who has always been in the news for wrong reasons, can overshadow Balan’s performance or not.
