Friday, April 20th, 2012 8:03:23 by Rana Nasir GhafoorChennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has lavished praise on his bowlers for an emphatic win over Pune Warriors India in a crucial India Premier League (IPL) match on Thursday.
Batting first, the Super Kings posted a challenging total of 164 on the board. Dhoni’s side managed to attain a decent score with the help of brilliant batting by the opening batsmen.
Later in the innings, Dhoni played some big shots to take his side to 160-odd runs. In reply, the Warriors were in commanding position when the Chennai bowlers turned things around for their side.
As a result, they earned a handsome 13-run win for the Chennai outfit, which is yet to produce excellent result consistently in the tournament.
Praising his bowlers for their fabulous effort, Dhoni said, "Full credit to the bowlers and I hope we continue doing well in their department in the remaining matches. Our fielding was also superb. In the last few matches, fielding let us down. But today
we took even some difficult chances."
He added, "We have not taken wickets early on in our earlier matches. But today was different as we had a few wickets in the first six overs. That has helped us in winning the match. I thought it was important to be aggressive on the field and keep up the
energy level. Hope we continue this," he added.
On dew factor, the World Cup winning captain stated, "The dew was an issue, the spinners weren’t getting too much turn."
On the other hand, the Pune skipper Sourav Ganguly was disappointed with his side’s performance. He said that his team lacked few big overs to register a win against Chennai.
He described, "We needed a big over towards the close from which we could get 20-odd runs. But it did not happened. It was a close finish. We were in the game but needed an over of 15-20 runs.”
When asked about his shoulder that he hurt while fielding, the former Indian skipper revealed, "Shoulder’s alright, landed on my chest actually. It’s all right."
