USA blames China for helping North Korea
Friday, April 20th, 2012 5:57:23 by Taimoor TariqUSA has blamed People’s Republic of China for helping North Korea in its missile programme which eventually turned out to be a failure
United States Secretary of Defence, Leon Panetta has caused a major stir by claiming that Pyongyang sought help from China for North Korea’s missile programme.
Conflicting reports suggest that a missile transportation vehicle was seen at a Pyongyang military parade. The vehicle resembled others of Chinese design.
Now, Leon Panetta suspects China’s involvement in North Korea’s programme through “trade and technology exchanges”.
“I’m sure there’s been some help coming from China. I don’t know, you know, the exact extent of that. I think we’d have to deal with it in another context in terms of the sensitivity of that information. But clearly there’s been assistance along those lines,”
he replied.
Along with other countries, China has been banned under two UN Security Council resolutions from helping North Korea with its much-criticized ballistic missile programme.
However, Beijing denies these statements by saying that China has not broken any rules.
On the other hand, officials from Pyongyang have also rejected criticism from the West of last Friday’s failed rocket launch. North Korea has even vowed to continue putting satellites into space for peaceful purposes.
US and South Korea believed that the mission was a long-range missile test. The test took place last Friday but turned out to be a failure after the missile fell into the Yellow Sea moments after its launch.
