Yuliya Efimova and Evgeny Korotyshkin outshined their competitors in the Women’s 100m breaststroke semi-finals and Men’s 100m butterfly final on second day of the Russian National Championships in Moscow.
Efimova demonstrated her gruelling efforts and qualified into the playoff as fastest swimmer by producing an effort of 1 minute and 06.92 seconds.
With her laudable efforts, she remained nearly one body length ahead of the rest of her competitors. She was followed by Dania Deeva, who ended second by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 08.81 seconds.
Deeva was trailed by Anastasia Tzaun, who claimed third position of the discipline by producing an effort 1 minute and 09.15 seconds.
Following that, Korotyshkin dominated the final of Men’s 100m discipline, where he captured gold medal of the discipline with an effort of 52.07 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Nikolay Skvortsov, who suffered a loss of just 0.01 seconds over his former finisher and settled on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 52.08 seconds.
Skvortsov was trailed by Nikita Konovalov, who stayed just 0.07 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with the timing of 52.15 seconds for bronze medal.
Next was the Women’s 100m freestyle playoff, where Veronika Popova stayed in a comfortable lead over her challengers and posted a time of 55.15 seconds for gold medal.
She was trailed by Margarita Nesterova, who stayed nearly half body length behind her former finisher and appeared on the victory stand for silver medal with the timing of 55.91 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Natalya Lovtchova, who remained 0.14 seconds slower and stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by clocking a time of 56.05 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s category whereas the finalists of the 100m breaststroke will face each other in the playoff, where the top position holders will rake medals.
Furthermore, the arena applauded for notable efforts of all participants at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
