Delhi Daredevils have luxury of rotating players, says Mahela Jayawardene
Saturday, April 21st, 2012 1:24:37 by Rana Nasir GhafoorDelhi Daredevils batsman Mahela Jayawardene has said that a strong pool of reserved players offers his side the luxury of adopting rotation policy during the ongoing fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Delhi outfit is one of the strongest contenders for the next round of the championship, as the side is performing brilliantly at the moment.
After completing their national duties, Jayawardene and Kevin Pietersen recently joined Delhi and their inclusion boosted up team’s strength significantly.
When asked whether the packed IPL schedule created any mess for him, Jayawardene said, "I think every team is going through it. Sometimes we a few days off. If a player has a good game and he is tired we can rotate him."
The classy right-hander shared that since the Delhi side has many talented players sitting on the bench, it allows the team to give its players some rest between the games.
On Pietersen’s return to England for national obligations, he shared, "Pietersen is leaving end of the month for his season so Warner will come and join the team. Plus we got many players sitting on the bench."
"So its all about rotation. If we feel we need to give a player a couple of days off then we give a break and utilize the bench strength. We have Andre on the bench and couple of others. So if Morne Morkel requires a break we will give him."
Jayawardene is impressed with Delhi’s fine bowling attack. He explained that the bowling unit has done a terrific job so far in the tournament and they need to continue the good work.
"Bowlers have done a great job. I think Morne has led the pack efficiently. Umesh Yadav is impressive. But I think the way Shahbaz Nadeem is bowling very very well. He is a confident guy on the field and a brilliant fielder."
"We have got a lot of experience in Ajit Agarkar and Aavishkar Salvi. Vaaron Aaron will be available by the end of the month," shared the veteran batsman who recently took over as Sri Lankan captain.
