Can KRL put up a decent performance in the President’s Cup?
Monday, April 23rd, 2012 3:54:41 by Shahrukh SohailNewspakistan analyzes whether Tariq Lutfi’s men can take home advantage and make it to the latter stages of the competition.
The thought of KRL beating Taiwan Power Company and Erchim FC in the AFC President’s Cup is a long shot, but it could be possible with the kind of form the reigning Premier League champions have displayed in recent months.
Tariq Lutfi’s men have grabbed the ‘double’ this season but in Asian competition, the odds are stacked against them. Only one team has made the country proud and while the Rawalpindi outfit face a stern task ahead, Lutfi has voiced his optimism before kicking
things off.
“We have around eight players in the national Under-22 team camp in Lahore; the rest of the lot attended the first training session today.”
“I had a detailed meeting with all the players before the training session today. I told them that we should qualify for the semifinals and all of them looked extremely motivated.”
“Our main focus will be to win our first game against Erchim FC from Mongolia as by beating them we will then almost be able to qualify for the last four stage because there are just three teams in our pool,” the former Pakistan coach said.
KRL start their preparations in Lahore before the actual competition starts in May.
