Chad Le Clos and Karin Prinsloo dominate swimming events – South African LC Nationals

Chad Le Clos and Karin Prinsloo dominated the semi-finals Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) and Women’s 200m freestyle, respectively on fifth day of the South African Long Course Nationals in Durban.

The 20-year-old Le Clos displayed his phenomenal efforts in the four lap IM event as he made his way into the playoff as top contender for gold medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 58.87 seconds.

His effort remained nearly 1.50 seconds under the Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) A-Time Olympic Qualification Standard of 2 minutes and 00.17 seconds.

The second best qualification spot of the event was secured by Darian Townsend, who stayed full body length behind and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 59.98 seconds.

Townsend was trailed by Sebastien Rousseau, who occupied third fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 2 minutes and 00.41 seconds.

The third fastest swimmer was trailed by Dylan Bosch, who occupied fourth position holder of the discipline by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 03.19 seconds.

His effort was trailed by Riaan Schoeman, who clinched fifth position of the event by posting an effort of 2 minutes and 03.62 seconds.

On the other hand, Prinsloo served notice of her talent by snaring top position in the 200m freestyle. The 22-year-old Prinsloo earned fastest qualification spot of the event by submitting a time of 55.63 seconds.

She was followed by Lehesta Kemp, who stayed almost one body length behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 26.84 seconds.

The 22-year-old Kemp was chased by Vanessa Mohr, who stayed marginally slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with an effort of 57.12 seconds.

Mohr was followed by Leone Vorster, who claimed fourth qualifying position of the discipline with an effort of 57.59 seconds.

Vorster was followed by Kayla Ferreira, who earned fifth position with the timing of 57.65 seconds.

In addition, the session ended after the completion of all listed events whereas these contestants will race each other in the final rounds for gold medal of their respective events.
