Kumar Sangakkara laments over DC’s batting failure against KKR
Monday, April 23rd, 2012 1:12:42 by Rana Nasir GhafoorDeccan Chargers captain Kumar Sangakkara has rued his team’s another batting failure in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
His comments came in the wake of Deccan’s humiliating defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a crucial game on Sunday.
The classy batsman described that his bowlers have done a good job so far, but it’s their batting department that is yet to do well.
Batting first, the Chargers could only score 126 runs, despite getting off to a fine start. In reply, the Deccan bowlers made things a bit tricky for the Knight Riders, but the Gautam Gambhir-led side managed to grab an easy win.
Expressing disappointment over his side’s embarrassing defeat, Sangakkara stated that his batsmen should have scored more than 150 runs in order to put Kolkata under pressure.
"We got a great start, a great platform. We should have got 150, but KKR fielded brilliantly. We can talk about another missed catch probably, but we bowled well and made it difficult for KKR," Sangakkara said.
Kolkata skipper Gautam Gambhir also praised the way Deccan bowlers performed and made it a tight clash. He explained that the track was slow and the opposition made the best use of the conditions.
"The wicket was low. Credit to Deccan for the way they bowled. It was a matter of applying themselves, and Manoj [Tiwary] and the others did that," he said.
Brett Lee was given the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his wonderful show. Lee did a great job with the ball and bowled 15 dot balls in his four-over spell.
"We summed up the wicket pretty well today. We tried to put the new ball up there to try and get the nicks, but then we took pace off it," shared the Kolkata fast bowler.
The Chargers have suffered five consecutive defeats in the championship and their chances for the elimination round are very bleak. Hence, they will have to win majority of their remaining matches in order to stay alive in the tournament.
