Karachi: (April 23, 2012) During a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, a delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has insisted the president to hold local body elections in Sindh on immediate basis.
President Zardari held a meeting with the coalition partners at Bilawal House, Karachi, to review the law and order situation in Sindh.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik, Agha Siraj Durrani, and Manzoor Wassan of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Senator Shahi Syed of Awami National Party
(ANP), Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat ul Ibad, Farooq Sattar, Babar Ghouri and Raza Haroon of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
In the meeting, the coalition partners expressed the resolve to make every effort to maintain peace in the province.
While talking to the delegation, the president said that he wanted to contest the next election with support of the coalition partners. According to the news, he also held a separate meeting with the MQM delegation.
Speaking to the journalists after the meeting, Raza Haroon of MQM said that his party has demanded the president to hold the local body elections as soon as possible.
He said, “The president was told that there was a lag in the implementation on the terms of consensus that was reached on the provincial level after the 18th amendment. The president has issued order to the chief minister
Sindh in this regard.”
