Cadel Evans of Team BMC was the second best cyclist of the 2011 season.
He has struggled in the current season and has not performed to his calibre during the earlier part of the year.
The Australian is currently seen in action at the Tour de Romandie and has launched a careful start to the race.
He finished at the 80th position after the opening prologue stage of the race.
While commenting on his struggling form, he noted, “I don’t think with my condition I wouldn’t have been close to the specialists today, so the rain slowed me down even more”.
“But it wasn’t my course or my distance. I hope the weather turns a bit better because I’ve been sick and so on”.
“I hope to get some racing in my legs and with a couple days racing, I think I can get a bit better. Then we can see what we can do a little bit later in the week”.
Evans rode brilliantly during the second stage of the race and earned the 13th spot after his remarkable performance at the 184.5 kilometre race.
Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky Procycling claimed the top overall position during the first stage of the race.
He finished the race in a fastest time of 4 hours, 50 minutes and 23 seconds with Lieuwe Westra, Paolo Tiralongo, Tejay Van Garderen and Maciej Paterski finishing at the second, the third, the fourth and the fifth positions.
Evans has now jumped up to the 31st overall spot after the stage 2 classifications and is determined to improve his performance for the coming stages of the race.
The 35-year-old claimed the top overall position during the Tour de France 2011 and is eyeing his second consecutive win at the race.
He is currently riding the Tour De Romandie to fine-tune his form ahead of the French Grand Tour.
Cadel registered his first win of the season by succeeding during the stage 2 of the Criterium International. He also claimed the first overall position and the point’s classifications of the race.
It will be interesting to see if Evans can find his 2011 winning momentum at the current race which will definitely help him for the biggest goal of his 2012 season, the Tour de France 2012.
