Freddie Roach feels Manny Pacquiao has nothing to prove now
Tuesday, April 24th, 2012 1:41:56 by Imran Shaukat KhanThe eight-division world champion, Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao, the current WBO welterweight champion, will take on the undefeated American prospect Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bradley holds a perfect record of winning all of his 29 professional fights (1 no contest), with 12 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. Therefore, many are of the view that he will be a different catch for the Filipino star. However, hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach thinks otherwise.
Roach, now 52, told the media that his fighter already has proved himself in the ring and now he has nothing more to prove in the sport.
“My fighter has nothing to prove,” Roach recently told Filipino news site SUNSTAR. “With his accomplishments, I don’t think Manny needs to prove himself as a fighter.”
Roach statement was basically a reply to the statement which Bradley’s trainer passed earlier this month.
“Manny Pacquiao has a lot to prove to the world. After the last decision over Marquez he has to prove that he’s still the man that’s unbeatable (and) relentless. So we’re ready for that,” said Bradley’s trainer, Joel Diaz, earlier this month.
Freddie Roach is also confident that his man will emerge victorious on the fight night since he reckons Bradley can make many changes in his fighting style.
Roach said, “I have one counter-puncher in case Bradley mimics Juan Manuel Marquez because Manny and Buboy (Fernandez) think that might happen but I don’t see it. I think he will be aggressive and I don’t think his style will change that much and will come in with his head first.”
Well, all said and done, Pacquiao, who currently rated as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, will have to win Bradley in an impressive way as otherwise his image will get affected badly. Moreover, if Pacquiao loses to Bradley, the chances of a dream-fight between him and Floyd Mayweather junior will totally fade away.
