World Tour debutant side, Team GreenEdge has announced its final roster for the 2012 edition of the Giro d’ Italia 2012.
The team will be assisted by a total number of nine specialist cyclists to ensure its top performance at the coming event.
Director Sportif, Matt White has made his intensions clear by stating that the team will divert its focus at its first Grand Tour of the season.
“We’re solely focused on stage wins. We’ve said that from the beginning. We definitely don’t have anyone for the general classification”, he noted.
“Most of our riders will have a chance for individual stage wins, and Matt Goss is our leader for the sprints”.
Team GreenEdge is built around Matt Goss and he will be accompanied by Fumiyuki Beppu, Daryl Impey, Jens Keukeleire, Brett Lancaster, Christian Meier, Jack Bobridge, Matt Goss, Svein Tuft and Tomas Vaitkus.
White is confident that the 9-men squad chosen by the management is capable of claiming the stage victories especially during the first two weeks.
He is also determined that the Australian team is strong enough to claim the top podium spot during the team’s time trial.
Team GreenEdge started operating in 2011 and gained its World Tour licence for the 2012 season.
It has already filled its bag with numerous victories in the season already and holds the fifth overall position after the team’s overall classifications with a total number of 402 points.
Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step is leading the category with a total number of 547 points while Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Team Katusha and Team Astana hold the next three positions.
White cited, “It’s a big moment, I suppose, every race this year has been a big moment because everything we experience is our first”.
“We’ve already ticked a lot of boxes, and the Giro has always been on the list. We really want to leave with a stage win”.
Matt explained that Giro is the second biggest goal for the team after the Tour de France and he will leave no stones unturned to ensure its top performance for the coming event.
The 95th edition of the Giro d’ Italia is scheduled from May 5-27 and cyclists from all across the world are warming up for the first Grand Tour of the year.
