Wendy Trott and Charl Crous dominate swimming events – South African LC Nationals

Wendy A Trott and Charl S Crous dominated the Women’s 800m freestyle and Men’s 50m backstroke on final day of the South African Long Course Nationals in Durban.

The 22-year-old Trott stayed considerably slower from her foregoing finisher touched the finishing end for gold medal by posting a time of 8 minutes and 30.61 seconds.

She was followed by Jessica Pengelly of NTS-NT, who remained nearly eleven seconds behind and emerged on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 8 minutes and 41.40 seconds.

Pengelly was chased by Michelle Weber of KZNA-KZ, who stayed nearly three seconds slower from her and transpired on the finishing blockade as bronze medallist by posting a time of 8 minutes and 44.10 seconds.

The fourth spot of the distant freestyle race was secured by Roxan Tammadge, who suffered a deficit of nearly seven seconds and tapped the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 51.27 seconds.

Following that, Crous proved his mettle for gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke. The 21-year-old Crous submitted an effort of 25.66 seconds for gold medal of the discipline.

His alluring effort remained 0.32 seconds behind and he occupied silver medal of the event with the timing of 25.98 seconds.

His remarkable struggle was chased by Darren Murray, who failed to overpower his foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing end as third position holder by touching the wall with an effort of 26.30 seconds.

The 21-year-old Murray was trailed by Zaahir Gamiet, who remained 0.36 seconds behind and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 26.66 seconds for fourth position.

Meanwhile, Sophie Edington snared the title of Women’s 50m backstroke. The 27-year-old Edington seized the crown of the discipline by posting a time of 28.82 seconds.

She was followed by Ashley-Cooper of WPA-WP, who secured second place by posting a time of 29.75 seconds.

Third spot of the event was obtained by Amy N Peens, who clocked a time of 30.35 seconds for bronze medal.

Furthermore, the championship ended after the conclusion of all events while the position holders were awarded accolades after the session.
