Asus Transformer Pad TF300 (2012): Full Review – Part 2
Wednesday, April 25th, 2012 6:28:49 by Usman KhalidThe Pad comes with all the glory of physical buttons as did the Prime. There is a volume rocker, micro-HDMI and micro-SD card slots on the left edge. A Sleep/Wake-up toggle is on the top of the slate that can now be easily pressed. On the rear right edge is a 1.5-inch speak slit that replaces the Prime’s speaker holes with protective gauze on it. The rear top edge houses an 8-mega pixel camera put Asus has shaved off the LED flash light.
The TF300 is all unibody design with the shape inheriting Prime’s genes but the metallic structure has been replaced with all-plastic. The optional dock with the tablet also has the same plastic built. However, the turn-off here is that the dock is still available for $150, despite the plastic versus metal replacement.
The TF300 nestles into the dock more easily. The cradle is also compatible with TF201 (Transformer Prime) however, the same cannot be said for the Prime’s dock. The TF300 does not even fit completely into the Prime’s keyboard dock and also potentially damages the connector inside the hinge. The dock comes with a full-sized USB port, full QWERTY keyboard—though cramped for bigger hands—and a mouse pad. It also has its own battery that provides the charge to the tablet for addition eight hours.
The Pad TF300 is currently available in Royal Blue colour, with a matching dock, however, the company said the device will be available in Ice Berg White and Torch Red, come June.
Operating system and features
Although Prime has received the ICS update in January, 2012, the additional features that come with the Pad TF300 are a luring sign to Android lovers. The Pad adorns the latest iteration of the Ice Cream Sandwich, 4.0.3 and with it come a number of new applications.
