Google enters the clouding business with a bang, announces its first cloud platform Google Drive – Part 2
Wednesday, April 25th, 2012 6:28:18 by Usman Khalid- Due to a number of features it boasts, using Google Drive is not an open and shut operation. It offers both web-based and local-based drive system.
- Activating the service activates the web service de facto. However for the stand alone application the user has to download and install the app.
- Go to drive.google.com to download the application, available at the link, “Download Google Drive” in the left sidebar.
- After a short installation, the application will appear in the form of a folder like icon on your desktop.
- Launching the application opens a window on the desktop.
- You can create files and folders of your liking in the stand-alone application.
- Once your are connected to the internet, the data in the desktop app will automatically sync with Web drive.
- Google offers 5GB of free storage initially and there are tools available to systematically place the data in an order.
- Any files created on the Drive do not consume the storage offered to the users.
- Photoshop, movies, photos — you name it. Google Drive supports the storage and viewing of all the popular file types. So, you can upload a movie to your Drive and play it back within your browser, no matter where you are.
- The Google Goggle is basically a search feature in the Drive that can be used to find files and folders in a quicker manner. Moreover, the user can also use the feature to find text other information on files. However, the data finding application is not so worthwhile.
- You can share your files and folders with your buddies and family. All the files and folders saved on GDrive can be shared by simply right-clicking the item and selecting share. Choose the user of your choice to share the file or folder with.
- The user can remotely access the files from any platform, provided that platform supports the format of the file.
