Imaad Shah: I strongly believe in independent cinema
Thursday, April 26th, 2012 12:24:19 by Imran Shaukat KhanThe Indian actor and musician Imaad Shah has only four films to his credit thus far. However, in his recent interview with the TOI he revealed that he did get a lot of offers from the filmmakers but he turned all of them down because he says he just wants to work in the films of his choice.
Shah, who was seen last in ‘Ek Tho Chance’, insisted that he could have also become a bankable star in the industry but he is not getting the kind of work which he wants.
He said, “I am trying to play my career as low-key as possible, because I want to do the kind of films I believe in, and I strongly believe in independent cinema. The kind of films that are coming out now are definitely improving over the last generation, but I still feel that there’s a lot of room for improvement. I’m trying to stay away from the whole over-exposed stardom kind of space, and I’ve turned down a lot of work that could have made me very powerful and rich, but there’s a right time for everything.”
The actor in the meantime talked about his upcoming films. He said that he is hoping for his films to do well at the international level.
He added, “I have done a couple of films in the last couple of years, which should release this year, and I think they are going to do very well in the international film festival circuit. One is “The Reluctant Fundamentalist”, and there’s another Bengali film, “Tasher Desh”, that I did with this director called Q in Calcutta, who made “Gandu”.
Well, all said and done, it looks as if Imaad Shah, who is currently participating in the upcoming film ‘M Cream’, has something in common with the B-town superstar John Abraham, as John, whose first home production ‘Vicky Donor’ recently got released, believes in an independent cinemas as well.
