PML-N Nawaz Sharif asks PM Gilani to immediately resign from his post
Thursday, April 26th, 2012 1:05:48 by Faisal FarooqPraising the Supreme Court’s decision for convicting Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani in the contempt of court case, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president Nawaz Sharif made a demand of the premier to immediately step down.
While speaking to the media, the two-time former prime minister said that there was no moral ground Gilani to hold the premiership further more. He observed, “Prime minister should immediately resign. He should step down without causing further crisis”.
In his view, the court verdict is based on truth and reality, adding that it must have punished the prime minister with a heavy heart, but the prime minister himself is to be blamed. The premier himself invited this situation,” he asserted.
The PML-N chief categorically said, “In light of the verdict, I think PM Gilani should resign immediately rather than prolong the issue”.
He said the incumbent did not spare any chance to ridicule court and its orders, adding that whenever responsible and dedicated officers were appointed to investigate cases, they were transferred by the people of their own choice.
Nawaz Sharif also criticized the role of allied parties, saying the coalition partners also played their role in increasing political chaos in the country which cannot be accepted.
Reiterating his previous stance, the former prime minister asked the government to hold elections immediately and appoint caretaker setup which would write the letter to Swiss authorities for reopening cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
He said, “If the government is willing, the PMLN would support a caretaker setup for the federal and provincial governments”.
About commenting on apex court’s stance Nawaz said he fully believed that the Supreme Court had the high moral ground while the government was standing on the wrong side.
The SC has ruled that Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani is guilty of contempt for refusing to obey an order to write to the authorities in Switzerland to ask them to re-open corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
The premier was punished till the rising of the court for violating Article 63 (1) (g) of the Constitution.
