Thursday, April 26th, 2012 5:35:40 by Usman KhalidSamsung Electronics have revealed the list of those smartphones and tablets that will receive the update to Google’s latest version of their mobile operating system Android, Ice Cream Sandwich or 4.0.
The list is not short and almost every phone that was released in 2011 and 2012 without ICS pre-installed is in the waiting list to embrace the latest OS version. On the top of the roster are Galaxy Note, and Galaxy SII and SII Skyrocket. Moreover, several tablets that missed out on the chance of getting ICS as their better half, are now listed to get the update.
However, the company failed to mention a specific time frame for some of the device, as to when they will be receiving the updates. Moreover, the schedule is segregated according to the carriers in the US. AT&T and Verizon will receive the updates first whereas; T-Mobile’s devices did not get a specific mention of the upgrade.
For AT&T, Galaxy Nexus S, SII, SII Skyrocket and Galaxy Tab 7.7 and 8.9 are on the list alongside Captivate Glide and Galaxy Note.
For Sprint, the smartphones and tablets on the verge of getting the update are; Nexus S 4G and Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch in addition to the aforementioned devices.
Verizon gets the update in the tablets Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 7.7 in addition to the smartphones.
The users who do not have the 3G- or 4G-enabled devices, only the WiFi capable, are also in the run for the update. Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 8.9, and Galaxy Tab 10.1 (WiFi-only versions) populate the list for the Ice Cream Sandwich.
The T-Mobile users are in the limbo on the update. No specific mention of the update has been announced for the carrier’s Android devices. However, the company is in close contact with both Samsung and Google for the update.
No time frames were given for any of the updates. But Samsung says it’s in “close communication with both Google and our carrier partners to upgrade devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as quickly and as smoothly as possible.”
No specific time frame has been announced for the T-Mobile devices as Samsung uses the phrase ‘Coming Soon’ for the company.
