Adam Gilchrist confident of KXIP’s win over Chennai

Kings XI Punjab captain Adam Gilchrist is confident about his team’s chances in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday.

Gilchrist, though, will not be a part of tie at Chennai, as he is yet to recover from a hamstring injury. The Punjab side is yet to show anything special in the ongoing fifth season of the T20 league.

Chennai, on the other hand, is in slightly better position on the points table. However, Gilchrist is confident his teammates will rise to occasion and display a wonderful performance in the imminent encounter.

"Every match is important to us. It is a challenge playing defending champions. In each match we are trying to improve on our performance. So it is an important game for us," Gilchrist said.

He added, "In the last three games they have definitely improved and have made contributions. The top order batsmen have been giving solid starts. The domestic stars have not scored huge runs but they have improved their batting performances definitely."

Talking about the wicket, the former Australian wicket-keeper batsman hoped that it would be a good track for T20 cricket. Referring to the track’s unexpected behaviour in KXIP’s previous game at Chennai, Gilchrist hoped for a better pitch this time around.

"The wicket looks pretty dry and without grass. It is not quite hot as of now. It is an afternoon match rather than an evening match. The first game of the tournament it was an odd wicket but I feel the wicket will play true," he stated.

On his own fitness, Gilchrist shared, "I am still not sure. I cannot put a date on it. Initially it was said it will be three or four weeks for me to recover. Now I cannot pinpoint a date. But, certainly I have been progressing very well. I am very happy
with the last few days."

The Punjabi guys have lost five of their eight matches so far in the tournament. Therefore, they would have to win majority of the remaining matches in order to qualify for the next stage.
