Lotte Friis win two gold medals at the Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio de Janeiro

Lotte Friis astonished the crowd by winning two gold medals on the opening day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

At first, the 24-year-old Friis proved her mettle in the Women’s 200m freestyle and later on, she clinched gold medal of the 1500m freestyle.

With her immaculate efforts, Friis remained the only swimmer to post a sub 2 minutes effort in the 200m discipline as she clocked a time of 1 minute and 59.65 seconds for gold medal.

Her effort was followed by Manuella Lyrio, who remained considerably behind her and settled on the podium for silver medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 00.27 seconds.

Lyrio was trailed by Laure Manaudou, who occupied bronze medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 00.27 seconds.

Subsequently, Friis served notice of her talent in the 1500m discipline as she clocked a time of 16 minutes and 11.76 seconds for the title of the event.

She was followed by Cecilia Elizabeth Biagioli, who stayed almost two seconds behind and touched the wall with the timing of 16 minutes and 13.84 seconds for silver medal.

Biagioli was chased by Poliana Okimoto, who secured third position of the discipline with an effort of 16 minutes and 47.37 seconds.

On the other hand, Joao B De Lucca snared gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle as he tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 48.26 seconds.

Lucca was trailed by Nicholas Cesar Oliveira, who remained almost 0.50 seconds behind and hit the wall for third position with the timing of 1 minute and 48.79 seconds.

Oliveira remained just an inch faster from her following rival, Charles Gipson Houchin, who posted a time of 1 minute and 48.83 seconds.

The session ended after the completion of all planned events while the position holders were awarded medals and accolades for their notable efforts after the session. Furthermore, the championship will conclude on April 29 after the completion of all races.
