PFF assures security for President’s Cup
Friday, April 27th, 2012 10:06:06 by Shahrukh SohailThe PFF have revealed their satisfaction over the security arrangements of the AFC President’s Cup that starts in May.
A cloud of uncertainty has surrounded Lahore’s ability to host the AFC President’s Cup, with many claiming that due to the terrorist attacks of 2009, the city should not be given this honour.
Bangladeshi champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club refused to travel to Pakistan because of security concerns, but the PFF is confident that the event can go ahead as scheduled and hopefully without any incident.
Speaking to reporters, PFF Secretary Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi claimed that the security arrangements were adequate and that it will waive any concerns that the travelling teams may have.
“We have assured the AFC that the foreign clubs will be provided foolproof security and the security condition here is not so bad that competitions cannot be held.”
“We have made all the arrangements for board and lodging of the clubs and the distance between the venue and the hotel where the foreign teams will be boarded is hardly three kilometers. Punjab government has assured us that water-tight security would be
provided to the foreign footballers.”
“We have already held here the AFC President’s Cup in 2007, besides holding the World Cup Qualifiers, Olympic Qualifiers and Test Series against Palestine last year and the AFC Under-14 Festival of Football this month. Showing security concern is the right
of the foreign teams but we assure them that they will not face any problem.”
“The Mongolian Club has got visas while Taiwan Power Company has also applied for them and hopefully the things will go smoothly," the official was quoted as saying.
