Floyd Mayweather junior: Miguel Cotto will have to make me respect his boxing skills

The five-division world champion, Floyd Mayweather junior, who currently holds the WBC Welterweight championship belt, is super-confident ahead of his upcoming fight with the reigning WBA (Super) Light Middleweight Champion, Miguel Cotto, which will take place on May 5 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather recently had an interview with David Mayo of milive.com, in which he said that he is not in good state of mind but in a great state of mind.

He said, “He seems like a cool guy. I respect him as a man. What can I say? Come May 5, he’s going to have to make me respect his boxing skills. Every fighter, you have to earn that. That’s not something you can just get from me.”

He added, “I’m always in, not a good state of mind, a great state of mind — before the fight, after the fight, and when the fight is happening. I’m blessed.”

The 35-year-old undefeated American legend, more commonly known as money, holds an incredible record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. Perhaps this is a reason why he believes he is the biggest draw in the sport at this point in time.

“I’m the reason why they don’t talk about heavyweights anymore,” Mayweather said.

Mayweather also talked about his archrival Manny Pacquiao, who is an eight-division world champion and the current WBO Welterweight Champion.

While speaking on his inclusion about the drug testing issue, he said, “Manny Pacquiao has done a lot in the sport. But he should also be standing behind me and saying, ‘You know what? We should clean up the sport because I’m a clean athlete.’ ”

Well, all said and done, Miguel Cotto carries a record of winning 39 of his 37 professional fights, including 30 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout and keeping his stats in front it is fair to say that he will provide Mayweather a very tough night on May 5.
