The Pirates! Band of Misfits 

Peter Lord’s The Pirates! Band of Misfits is a 2012 #D stop-motion animated flick which is distributed by Columbia Pictures. It features the voices of Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Piven, Imelda Staunton and David Tennant. The film is based on the first
two books from Gideon Defoe’s The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists and The Pirates! in an Adventure with Whaling. 

The flick follows Pirate Captain who sets out on a mission to conquer his rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz for the Pirate of the year Award. The quest takes Captain and his crew from the shores of Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. 

With a production budget of $55 million, the movie rocked the box office in its opening weekend and received Certified Fresh rating at the review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes. It scored an 86 per cent positive score from 116 critics, with an average
rating of 7.2 out of 10. The site’s general consensus states, “It may not quite scale Aardman’s customary delirious heights, but The Pirates! still represents some of the smartest, most skillfully animated fare that modern cinema has to offer.”

Globe and Mail’s top film critic, Jennie Punter, gave the film a score of three out of four and praised by stating, “Designed to please all generations of irreverent humour-lovers, The Pirates! Band of Misfits may not be heart-warming (it is about nasty,
scurvy pirates!) but it’s breezy rollicking fun.”

Nell Minow of the Belifnet reported an impressive rating of B+ and commented, “The wonderful folks at Aardman have created another deliriously silly stop-motion animation delight, filled with giddy pleasures and so many witty details flying by that you wish
for a pause button.”

Overall, it’s a great family flick and an amazing way to kill time with your loved ones.
