‘Kahaani’ completes 50 days, grosses Rs. 104 crore worldwide

Director Sujoy Ghosh’s film ‘Kahaani’, which featured Vidya Balan in the lead role, has completed its fifty days and it has written a new success story by grossing Rs. 104 crore from India and overseas.

“Kahaani celebrates 50 days at the BO. Grosses 104 cr worldwide. Fabulous!” Trade expert Taran Adarsh tweeted on Friday morning.

“@AniGuha @krnx #Kahaani gross figure from India + Overseas theatrical is 104 cr. Nett figure [India] is, of course, lower,” Adarsh said in a reply to a follower.

Ghosh made his directing debut in 2003 with ‘Jhankaar Beats’, which did well at the box office. However, his following two films ‘Department’ and ‘Aladin’ sank at the box office without any trace. Therefore, he was not having a good time at all but with the success of ‘Kahaani’ he has once again come under the main lights.

Nevertheless, when asked Ghosh, he said his intentions were never to about the commercial aspect of the film.

“My intention was to make a film and play with the script beautifully, I never thought about the commercial aspect,” Sujoy Ghosh had said in an interview.

“It’s ultimately the film’s script and the word of mouth that will ensure success for the movie,” he added.

‘Kahaani’ is a female oriented film as a result to which many were of the view that it will not do well at the box office. Ghosh also knew the fact that Bollywood is a male-oriented industry but he says when someone’s heart is set on something it becomes very hard to do anything else.

“My heart was set on it though people discouraged me and a lot of things happened. You get discouraged at every turn in your life but once your heart is set on something it is very hard to do anything else and that’s what happened to me,” he said in one of his interviews.

Well, all said and done, the main reason behind the success of the film was the presence of Vidya Balan, who surprised the nation last year with the magnificent performance in ‘The Dirty Picture’.
