Acer Iconia Tab A510 (2012): Full Review – Part 1
Saturday, April 28th, 2012 7:10:17 by Usman KhalidThe Acer Iconia Tab Tab A510 is the first tablet from Acer that incorporates a quad-core Tegra 3 processor from NVIDIA. Acer is the second manufacturer to release a tablet with a quad-core processor after AsusTek.
After NVIDIA announced the new quad-core processor chip last year, many experts speculated a slew of tablets to embrace the technology but surprisingly the adoption has been slow. Including A510, there are only three tablets in the market with such technology; the other two are from Asus—Transformer Prime and Transformer Pad.
There are a lot of features that the new slate from Acer brings new to the table, but it would be biased to state that is one of the best in the market. The new A510 is shorthand in a number of dimensions. Suffice to say, it proves to be an average Joe in the market, if the processing technology is taken out of the equation.
The rest of the post describes A510’s features.
Operating System and Features
Chief among the features in A510 is its operating system. The tablet comes pre-installed with the latest Android version, Ice Cream Sandwich or 4.0.3, to be precise. ICS is a major upgrade to the latest tablet over the February release, A200. However, Acer has introduced a number of its own customized features.
One main addition from Acer is Acer Ring, which works with bookmarks and four applications. The outlook is completely customizable; the user can add or delete up to four applications in the carousel and can add as many bookmarks as he wants.
Though Acer Ring is an attractive feature in Iconia Tab A510 but its presence looks to be an extra in an already very efficient operating system that is running on a powerful quad-core processor. The relief is that Acer Ring can be disabled by unchecking the option in the settings. The access to bookmarks and multitasking in Android 4.0 is made very swift and buttery smooth and the need of an app like Acer Ring seems to take the user a step away from interacting with the software.
