Acer Iconia Tab A510 (2012): Full Review – Part 3
Saturday, April 28th, 2012 7:10:05 by Usman KhalidThe Tegra 3 is complemented by 1 GB of DDR2 RAM, which is a step back in the competition as Transformer Pad boasts a 1 GB DDR3 RAM. It has 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 2.1, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, and GPS. Only one 32GB-capacity configuration is currently available.
Acer supplies USB adaptors with the tablet, one micro-USB to USB converter and one micro-USB to female USB adaptor. The latter dongle is made available to connect full USB devices with the Iconia Tab.
The screen, though comes with a standard resolution on a 10.1-inch screen, is missing the IPS panel. The Transformer Pad, on the other hand, has IPS panels but is lowered down to save battery power. IPS is essential to increase the display intensity especially in the bright sunlight. The lack of one is the shortfall in the A510.
Performance
The lack of IPS panel lowers the brightness considerably but it also narrows the viewing angles. The screen washes off colours at extremely slender angles. The colour scheme is distorted once the user changes his/her perspective.
The TF300 and TF210 from Asus have IPS panels. The latter especially thrives on screen brightness as the technology makes it easy to read under bright sunlight. The same panel has trickled down power in TF300 but it is still better than most of its peers in the market.
The A510’s screen is responsive but not as quite like the TF300 or TF210. Asus brings one of the most sensitive screens to the customers. Even a delicate touch yields response. However, on the Iconia Tab, a more deliberate and noticeable touch is required to swipe through slides.
The navigation is made easy by NVIDIA Tegra3. Swiping is faster and almost free of stutter but not quite as the iPad. The Tegra 3 technology inculcates the 60 frames per second rate to the display brings smoother transition on closing apps or swiping through them.
