Acer Iconia Tab A510 (2012): Full Review – Part 4
Saturday, April 28th, 2012 7:09:59 by Usman KhalidThe GPU coupled with ICS brings smooth display motion. Reading through digital comics is, for example, a good experience. It is not as smooth as the iPad, but better than Transformer Prime’s performance upon its release back in 2011.
Gaming is one of the important functionalities searched in a tablet. Though iPad series is still considered the best in gaming, A510 does not slack behind in the competition. The tablet runs mid- to top-range games in a very smooth and flawless manner.
Rapitide GP, with Tegra-exclusive screen water splash feature, runs fluently with impressive 60 frames per second rate. However, the picture quality still is iPad’s forte, especially after playing the game on new iPad 2012 regardless of the missing water splash graphics no one would want move to another tablet.
Web browsing is another plus in the new device. The pre-installed Android 4.0.3 web browser works at par with its peers in terms of scrolling and downloading web contents. Although it cannot match iPad’s performance, the scroll down long pages was found smooth and without noticeable clippings.
Downloads are faster compared to A200 and Asus’ TF300. Although the difference is in seconds but that matter a world to users in the run of play.
Do not expect much from Iconia Tab’s cameras. The front-facing snapper is only good enough for video chatting and that’s about it. On the flip side is a 5-mega pixel camera which is better than most in the market but as Asus released TF300 a couple weeks ago, this one is a complete turn off. It shoots in the maximum resolution of 720p and the colour saturation is below par to its peers.
Fortunately, the tablet can play both 720p and 1080p videos from outside sources but the picture quality leaves something to desire; aggravated by narrow viewing angles, the video watching experience is not so satisfying.
Conclusion
In a nutshell, the Acer Iconia Tab is a faster tablet with Tegra 3 processor but had Asus Transformer Pad TF300 not arrived a couple of weeks ago, the A510 would have been a fine device in the market. But unfortunately TF300 is $50 cheaper than A510 with a better display.
