Saturday, April 28th, 2012 3:44:43 by Kashif KhanLotus team principal Eric Boullier says that he believes in Romain Grosjean’s ability to become a champion in the future.
He said that the youngster has the potential to do it and his performances are getting better by each race that he is taking part in.
The half-French half-Swiss driver secured his maiden podium finish in Formula 1 during the Bahrain Grand Prix. He drove impressively to overtake the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg.
“More than the podium finish, what was impressive is the fact that he finished so close to Kimi and just 10 seconds behind Sebastian Vettel,” said Boullier when asked by AUTOSPORT about Grosjean’s performance.
“More than the podium finish, what was impressive is the fact that he finished so close to Kimi and just 10 seconds behind Sebastian Vettel,” said Boullier when asked by AUTOSPORT about Grosjean’s performance. I was not expecting to have both drivers to finish so close together,” he added. “That means that he is now capable and ready to compete at the highest level. He has the speed and the talent to be world champion one day.”
Grosjean had an unlucky start to the 2012 season as his first two races ended in unfortunate retirements. The Franco-Swiss driver performed better at the Chinese Grand Prix and finished sixth in the race.
Bahrain GP really showed how much potential Grosjean has in him to be at the highest level of the sport. Kimi Raikkonen his teammate has also said that young Grosjean has immense talent and will be a great driver in the near future.
Boullier admitted that the team was getting a bit frustrated after the results of the first few races of the season. He said the team knew that they had to perform at Bahrain to improve their results. Grosjean along with his teammate Raikkonen did very well to finish at 3rd and 4th spot to remain in contention for the world titles.
It will be interesting to see how Romain progresses as the current season moves to the European leg of the tour.
