Facebook to hit 1 billion users mark
Sunday, April 29th, 2012 10:33:35 by Farasat AliThe Mark Zuckerberg social network is expected to entertain 1,000 million users registered before the end of 2012. On Monday, Facebook announced that they have 901 million active users, 32.5% more than last year (680 million),
of which over half (488 million) from mobile phones are connected.
Activity between the profiles remains high as Facebook recorded over 3,200 million comments and "likes" which could climb up to more than 300 million photos. In total there are over 125,000 million friendships.
"We believe that the recommendations of friends have a great influence on the interests of consumers and their buying decisions. The social context emphasizes the relationship with our friends with brands. If a friend likes a product,
it is more likely that one of his contacts to try it." They said in a statement
In the same vein to reveal their intentions, Facebook clarifies the reasons for the purchase of Instagram:
"We would like a separate mobile application, to give more value to our products related to photography and to promote further the experience of sharing and connect from the phone."
"We believe we are at the forefront of communication which allows users to interact in a fast and an easy way. We have experienced rapid growth in the number of users and their connections." They added
During the first quarter of 2012 social network reported net income of $ 205 million (158 million), a figure that analysts have estimated as positive but 12% lower than the gains obtained in the same period of 2011. Facebook blames
the difference in prices for advertising and rising costs in launching new products and services.
These figures come from an updated prospectus filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for its IPO in May.
Microsoft was one of the first companies to bet on Facebook and remains one of their major shareholders. In this context it seems logical that Redmond giant has sold part of the package of patents that AOL bought last week. The
social network acquired 650 patents for $ 550 million (418 million). However, Microsoft reserves the remaining 275 patents.
