Google agrees not to collect date on wireless networks for street-view
Sunday, April 29th, 2012 10:39:51 by Farasat AliGoogle has been warned by the Spanish Agency for Data Protection (AEPD) not to expand its mapping features “Street view” as this facility might invade someone’s privacy. They have told Google to use a medium that includes the feature
of fading people in the images where they appear.
The AEPD Google has requested information on "the type of data to be collected, the purpose of collecting, locations and retention periods of personal data collected on the images or the procedures to anonymize personal data (pictures,
registration) among others.
The service has been surrounded by controversy since 2010 when Germany warned of problems with the privacy of citizens to alert the data collection. The cars did not just take pictures but they collected data on private wireless
networks (Wi-Fi) that were in his way.
Google has guaranteed that no capture "in no case" location data from Wi-Fi networks, or data through other mediums. They have assured the committee that they are helping the cause by using a technology that will insert "permanent
and irreversible blur" before the publication of the images which is applicable to identifiable faces and license plates.
The search engine will provide users means by which they can communicate and report on any image in which they appear, their families, their cars or homes, making it further blurred, even if the image has been previously diffused.
The agency, "in exercising its functions and powers" to ensure compliance with Spanish legislation on data protection and guarantee the rights of citizens ", they said in a statement.
