Minister for Interior Senator Rehman A Malik on Saturday took a dig at the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’ top brass claiming the PML-N Chief Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and his family are involved in a money-laundering scam and have illegally shifting approximately 32 million US dollar abroad.
While speaking to the media reporters on Saturday, Rehamn Malik said that he was ready to expose Sharif family’s corruption with documentary proof. The interior minister also held that he would send a reference of the money-laundering scam to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the next week, adding that he would produce all documents before the court if requested.
He said that as a Minister for Interior, he could have probed into the case through Federal Investigation Agency, but he preferred to refer the case to NAB for a transparent and independent probe.
“[As the] interior minister, I could have directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to register a case against the Mian family involved in the money-laundering scam and got them arrested, but I decided to refer the case to the NAB for an independent inquiry,” maintained Rehman Malik during the press conference.
Rehman Malik also mentioned involvement of Sharif brothers in other corruption cases such as the Mehran Bank scandal.
Replying to a query regarding the National Reconciliation Ordinance, Senator Rehman Malik said that it was first introduced by Mian Nawaz Sharif and former President Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari as they conspired to dismiss former Prime Minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
Rehman Malik also had a word of praise for army leadership for assisting the government on promotion of democracy in the country.
“I appreciate the present army leadership for its support [in] the promotion of democracy and democratic institutions,” said Malik.
