Burns Quran: US pastor once again showed his ugliness
Monday, April 30th, 2012 11:38:33 by Faisal FarooqControversial United States (US) pastor Terry Jones has once again showed his ugliness, burning more copies of the Quran and a depiction of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) to protest the imprisonment in Iran of a Christian clergyman.
According to the media reports, Jones and another pastor, who carried out their protest in front of their church in Gainesville, Florida on Saturday, made a demand of the Iranian government, seeking release of Christian pastor Youcef Nadarkhani.
The sick-mind pastor began to burn copies of Islam’s holy book and an image supposedly depicting Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) in front of his church, as seen in a 38 minute-long video on the website of Jones’ organization, Stand Up America Now.
About 20 people attended Saturday’s burning and several Gainesville police officers were stationed across the street from the church, media reported.
The Gainesville fire department issued the church a citation for violating the city’s fire ordinances soon after the incident. Upon which, the pastor was then handed a $271 fine, which included court costs.
Local police officer said the pastor was fined because the Florida city of Gainesville has “restrictive fire ordinances,” which dictate that “books cannot be burned without authorization because of environmental concerns over the burning of glue and bindings in books”.
Urging Terry Jones to reconsider, the Pentagon expressed concerns that American soldiers in Afghanistan and elsewhere could be put at greater risk because of the step.
In March 2011, Jones’ assistant, pastor Wayne Sapp, burned a copy of the Quran and broadcasted the ceremony on the internet. In result, violence reported in northern Afghanistan, in which at least 12 people were killed.
The Guardian reported a statement by Pentagon spokesman Commander Bill Speaks, saying: “We are aware of Pastor Terry Jones’ threat to burn a Quran, and are monitoring the situation. The last time Pastor Jones burned a Quran, back in March of 2011, more than 16 people died and more than 90 people were injured from the resulting protests”.
The said pastor for the second time is burning copies of the Quran and images of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
